¡Léeme!/Read me!

*Updated as of December 2015*

I began this blog with the selfish purpose of winning an iPad in a contest organized by Cultural Care Mexico. Luckily, there was good response and I continued writing about my experiences.

Before that, I graduated from a high school in the State of Mexico in 2007 and instead of enrolling to university I went to the US to work as an Au Pair for a year; I liked it and decided to extend my stay for another year.

I decided to not enter university, so when I came back to Mexico in 2009 I got a job as a Spanish-English translator in the newspaper The News. I didn't have experience translating but my high level of English helped me.

I worked at The News for almost two years and I learned a lot. After a few months I began editing the cultural section and I even wrote a few articles about cultural events. I went to the 2010 Cervantes festival with a press pass and wrote a review of a musical and a concert I went to.

However... I needed to travel again. After considering my options and breaking open my piggy bank, I decided to be an Au Pair again but in France this time to 1) travel and live in Europe and 2) improve the French I learned in high school. I arrived in October 2011 and left in July 2012.

Instead of staying in France one year I stayed nine months and then went to the UK for three months to do volunteer work in organic farms and gardens. That has been one of the best summers of my life and I fell in love with the rural life in the British countryside.

Upon my return to Mexico I took several translating and interpreting courses yet I continued focusing mainly on translating. In December 2014 I took the Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) from Cambridge University which helped me get a good job in Mexico City in April 2015.

My life has changed a lot over time and little by little I have been establishing what I want to do with my life and what I'm good at. Even though I'm still interested in languages and writing, I want to use my skills and experiences in working in international organizations. For that reason, in August I began a degree in International Relations. We'll see where that takes me  in 4.5 years.
